How To Calculate Event ROI

Revenue-based ROI = (attributable revenue − event cost) ÷ event cost × 100. Forecast customer revenue = qualified leads × close rate × average deal value. Add separate direct revenue only if it does not overlap.

Profit-adjusted ROI = (attributable revenue × gross margin − event cost) ÷ event cost × 100. Break-even revenue = event cost ÷ gross margin, or simply event cost for revenue-based returns.

Count only revenue your attribution method credits to this event. Use the same 90-day period for costs, conversion, and revenue. Influenced pipeline, brand awareness, and social reach are not realized revenue.

Worked Example

200 qualified leads × 10% close rate × $2,000 per customer = $40,000 forecast revenue. Against $20,000 in event costs, net return is $20,000 and revenue-based ROI is 100%. At 70% gross margin, profit-adjusted ROI is 40%.

When Should I Use Actual Results?

Use actual results once your follow-up period ends. Enter realized event-attributable revenue and acquired customers. The forecast close rate and deal value are then excluded from the calculation.

Can I Use This For Trade Shows Or Conferences?

Yes. Include booth, venue, staff, travel, promotion, and technology costs. Keep your attribution period consistent. For contact capture improvements specifically, use the Event Lead Capture Calculator .
